We arrived at the hotel late Monday night completely exhausted after the grueling 24 hour flight and 1½ coach journey. We had two days before the competition would begin, so getting a good nights sleep was crucial. On Tuesday we had a relaxing day, exploring Geelong and enjoying the facilities that our 4½ star hotel had to offer (which included a swimming pool and sauna). During the afternoon TEAM-UK underwent some light exercise and practice through team and individual patterns etc. Unfortunately, it was of to bed early, as the next morning the official weigh in would begin.
Wednesday was an early start and we certainly began to feel the effects of the 24 hour flight and 12 hour time difference. After having breakfast we made our way up to the Mercure Hotel, where the official registration and weigh in would take place. We arrived at 9.30am outside the hotel where we came face to face with some of the other competing nations (Canada, USA, Argentina, Russia, Japan and Singapore), and it was nice to see that the Argentineans where in good voice, as usual. The official registration and weigh ran on to about 11.30am, Luckily the England team managed to get away at about 10.30am. Unfortunately for the coach’s, they faced a whole day of
meetings, so much so that we saw Master Nicholls and Mr Skyrme arrive back at our hotel at about 10.00pm. The schedule by this time for the competition had been finished, and all was ready for the event to commence as planned on Thursday 14 th September.
During the day we had more time to look around Geelong and explore the hotel. However, a lot of mine and the TEAM-UK Men’s team’s time was spent practicing the team patterns. After that we had a relaxing evening in preparation for what we knew was going to be a long, busy and exiting day. We had dinner in the Hotel, and yes again had an early night. All was ready for day 1 of the 8 th ITF Junior World Championships, and all was ready for us to show the world how far Taekwon-Do in England has progressed.
