Having entered a grand total of 5 Teams in the Tournament, we once again braved the unknown, yes you guessed it, this was the First Team Event GTS had entered, but we all felt that after some great performances at the last tournament, we felt extremely optimistic that we should have a go!
The day commenced with the 8-12 yr old Division, Yellow Belt Category, representing GTS were Matthew Chubb, and Liam Downer, who considering the amount of training they had managed, produced good solid performances. It was after all their very first competition, unfortunately their opponents where much more experienced and a first round defeat followed, that’s that one out the way boys, now you can build on this and look forward to your next competition.
Next up the 13-15 yr old Division, Yellow Belt Category, we had entered two Teams in this Division.
Great stuff all the way, it had everything, Reegan Mathews, Mark Peachey, and Tyler Cawood ran out deserving winners.
Also to our amazement, it could have ended up an all GTS Final, as Jack Mackenzie, Grant Bull and Ozkan Yalim, put up a good display and with a little bit of luck could have won there round, but as fate would have it, a deserving team from MWTA beat them narrowly.Well-done keep it up! Then came the 16-17 yr old Division, Yellow Belt Category,
Ben Baddeley, Alan May and Nathan Whiteman, what can you say about this performance, not much?, except what
a credit to GTS and even more importantly themselves.
All the Team performed magnificently, remember this is only your second competition and Nathan Whiteman’s first! Here we go again, yes, you guessed it, Alan May, we feel once again he needs a mention, all who know Alan realize that he is accident-prone, getting a pulled shoulder at his first competition, he had, what you could described, as a fierce bout with
a very good opponent in his second competition, and was with out a doubt winning. With not long remaining and a win
in the bag, his opponent throws a punch and broke Alan’s nose, he was judged in the opinion of the official unable to continue and the decision given to the opposing Team as the blow was deemed not malicious, outcome his opponent
received an official warning, so the opposing Team went on to get the decision. Alan took his self off, apparently blew his nose, his nose went back as good as new, there’s a tip for you, then came back to support his Team mates, the Team winning overall, so Alan picked up his Gold medal, and proved a fine example to people watching, how to conduct yourself, well done Alan. Last but not least the 18+ yr old Division, Yellow Belt Category.
Ali Campbell and Richard Stuart who on the day had a huge task as a two man Team ahead of them, they began the task with great enthusiasm, but unfortunately went out in the first round, Ali having two bouts in quick succession which left him utterly exhausted and Richard running in to a turning kick from his opponent leaving him feeling slightly dizzy and disorientated, we feel we can safely say they really enjoyed this one!
