2nd Midlands Open 2007

Once again we set out at that time in the morning where you think to yourself "What on earth am l doing at this time in the morning" we all know that feeling we feel certain of that.
It was to be a long journey leaving at 5am to arrive at 9.30am, we left the competition at 7pm and arrived back at round about Midnight and believe it or not we did not here one moan all day, not bad going we felt, well done everyone.
Having arrived at the Venue at 9.30 we settled in quickly so as to get under way,the Blackbelt Divisions were first up both Patterns and Sparring.
With the colour belts to follow they must have been a little inspired by their Instructors, who won a total of 3 Gold's and 1 Silver to start off the days proceedings!
To mention all the exciting things that unfolded would still not give credit to some of the performances, so we will mention what we feel are the most memorable.
The women's contingent consisting of Hayley Pemble, Sophie Judd and Jade Hansford done remarkably well, picking up 2 Gold's and a Silver all in their Sparring Divisions, we would like to mention Hayley who having injured her forearm the week earlier fought with her arm heavily strapped and won through to Gold position, well done Hayley!
Sophie had a good solid performance, while Jade on her first Competition showed remarkable composure, well done again both of you!
For Robin North and Peter Munns this was only their second competition, Robin won a Bronze and fought well and Peter won a Silver in a fiercely contested final against a strong opponent, unlucky peter, next time.
Our younger contestants Reece Kinch Silver position, Jack Field Bronze position and Eligh Mathews all performed with great heart and promise, we expect great things from you three, so keep training hard, as you all have great potential.
Matthew Chubb picked up a Bronze in the pattern and narrowly missed out on the sparring medal positions, the only Colour Belt to win anything in pattern apart from Reegan Mathews?
Reegan Mathews having gained a Silver in Pattern went on to pick up a Silver in his Sparring Division against a very experienced opponent, who was passably favorite to win this Division, however on the day Reegan started slowly and by the end of the contest finished on top, if only, he definitely is one to watch for the future, solid performance.
Nathan Whiteman fought as always with great determination and was very unlucky not to push his club mate to a closer decision. it was close and we struggled to separate them but there has to be a victor, this time it was not to be Nathan, next time who knows.
Mark Peachey fought a terrific fight under pressure, from once again an opponent who has had much more experience than he has and didn't he do well, in the final he proved that any doubts he may have harbored where truly put to rest, excellent display and some good kicking Mark!
Last but not least Rodney Wroot, who has not trained as much as he would have liked entered his first comp extremely nervous and should be very happy with his performance, we are, we feel it was one of the best performances of the day and you also got rewarded in the form of a Bronze, what more could you ask for on your debut.
